Student Oath
I SHALL OBSERVE THE TENETS OF TAE KWON DO.
I SHALL RESPECT MY INSTRUCTORS AND SENIORS.

Training Facility Rules:
1. Always address an instructor or senior formally while class is in session
a. Sir or Ma’am for Seniors
b. “Sa-bum†or “Sa Bum Nim” for instructors (Sa Bum Nim is preferred)
c. “Sa Hyun Nim” for Masters and “Kwan Jang Nim†for Grand Master
2. Always bow when entering or leaving the Do-Jang.
3. If you are late approach the side of the class. Bow to the instructor and wait to be acknowledged. When you are, quickly proceed to place in line.
4. Never wear street shoes on mats.
5. Never wear unapproved uniforms. (White uniforms or the Advanced Red Uniform for 5th GUP and above are acceptable.)
6. Never practice with a dirty uniform. (Keep yourself presentable.)
7. Never sit or lie down unless directed. When seated, sit in kneeling or cross-legged position.
8. Never Spar unless directed.
9. Keep practicing until you are told to stop.
10. Never modify the technique you are practicing unless directed.
11. Always clean the practice area. Remove any trash you see.
12. Give the instructor your full attention when they are speaking, remain motionless.
13. Keep your pride in check. Compete with yourself. Do not make it your goal to beat other students. Make it your goal to be your best!
14. Seniors, always keep in mind that your behavior is an example to lower ranking students.
15. When training think before you act or it may result in injury. (i.e. Endangering your partner’s safety, Blind sweeps or Practicing improper techniques.)
16. Obey the tenets of Tae Kwon Do and uphold your oath.
General Choi’s Rules for Students:
1. Never tire of learning. A good student can learn anywhere, anytime. This is the secret of knowledge.
2. A good student must be willing to sacrifice for his art and instructor. Many students feel their training is a commodity bought with their (weekly or monthly) dues, and are unwilling to take part in demonstrations, teaching and working around the do jang. An instructor can afford to lose this type of student.
3. Always set a good example for lower ranking students. It is only natural they will attempt to emulate senior students.
4. Always be loyal and never criticize the instructor.
5. If an instructor teaches a technique, practice it and attempt to utilize it.
6. Remember that a student’s conduct outside the do jang reflects on the art and instructor.
7. If a student adopts a technique from another do jang and the instructor disapproves of it, the student must discard it immediately or train at the gym where the technique was learned.
8. Never be disrespectful to the instructor. Though a student is allowed to disagree with the instructor, the student must first follow the instruction and then discuss the matter later.
9. A student must always be eager to learn and ask questions.
10. Never betray the instructor.
